Good Behavior and Therapy Dog Certification Program

Certification from organizations like The American Kennel Club (AKC) and Therapy Dog International (TDI) can lead to many new and rewarding opportunities for you and your dog. Good behavior programs, such as AKC’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC), not only acknowledge stellar behavior and responsible dog ownership, but can provide benefits such as insurance discounts, apartment application eligibility, and more. Most importantly, a well-behaved dog can be an active and productive member of your community. At All About My Dog, we proudly train, test and certify dogs for a variety of good behavior programs. Our Certification Program also includes Therapy Dog training. Learn more below. Training for service and emotional needs is by invitation only; please contact Lisa Rockland.

AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Certification

Every puppy should start off right! In our Puppy Series, we’ll address your all of your questions, including housebreaking, nipping, barking, and crate training, as well as provide the foundation training you and your pup need to build a life-long bond. At the end of Puppy 3, or upon request, our instructors may administer the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy test, which includes pledges for responsible dog ownership and general and pre-Canine Good Citizen behavior testing. Upon passing the exam, you’ll get an application to send to AKC® for enrollment in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program. All dogs under 1 year of age are welcome to participate including purebreds and mixed breeds. AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy training is a natural lead in to the AKC® Canine Good Citizen® Program.

AKC Temperament Test (ATT)

While all dogs are good dogs, not all dogs have the same temperament. Temperament is a dog’s natural predisposition to react in a certain way to a stimulus. The AKC Temperament Test is a noncompetitive, pass-fail test that screens for fear, shyness, inability to recover and lack of cooperation. It covers six categories: social, auditory, visual, tactile (touch), proprioceptive (motion), and unexpected stimulus. In order to earn the AKC ATT title, dogs must be 1 year or older, and pass the ATT twice under two different evaluators. To request ATT testing, please contact barkback@allaboutmydog.com, or click the button below.

Canine Good Citizen

The AKC Canine Good Citizen® program was designed to encourage and reward responsible dog ownership, including appropriate social etiquette, control in real-life situations, and basic obedience skills. In our Canine Good Citizen classes and workshops, we will cover the ten elements of the AKC Canine Good Citizen test with a goal to ensuring your dog has the skills necessary for certification. At All About My Dog, our goal is to create a dog you can take anywhere and everywhere, a dog you can be proud of—the dog of your dreams. If that’s your goal, too, then this is the perfect class for you!

Note: Students are welcome to take this class as many times as they like until they feel ready to take their official test. We will always be filtering in new dogs, new people, and adding new distractions so you can keep improving your skills!

Therapy Dog Training

Pet therapy is one of the most requested complementary therapies for children and adults in need. As a certified pet therapy team, you and your dog can expect to visit nursing homes, hospitals, libraries, schools, and corporate centers—any place where your visit will elicit a smile. At All About My Dog, we’re thrilled to offer classes that prepare you and your dog for pet therapy certification from regional, national and internationally recognized organizations.

In our training classes, we will focus on necessary core skills like how to settle your dog in a busy therapy setting: among crowds, during long waits, around hospital equipment like walkers, canes, and crutches, and through loud noises and unexpected encounters. We’ll reinforce high value “leave it” commands for water and food as well as help your dog learn how to walk with you on a loose lead and gently interact with children and adults. Because we also offer dog therapy services, you and your dog will learn alongside other real-life therapy dogs.

If you enjoy volunteering, join us to discover the joy your dog can bring to others, and the amazing bond you’ll create with your beloved pet.

Note: Therapy Dog training is all on-leash.
