Puppy Classes

At All About My Dog, we teach The Lisa Rockland Method, a unique behavior-based curriculum you won’t find anywhere else. Our method addresses the real-life issues you and your dog may be having as well as “traditional” and fun obedience learning.

Some people just teach tricks. Some people just teach behavior. We teach both.

Each of our foundation classes offers instruction appropriate to your dog’s age, stage of development and individual needs and behaviors. We’ll certainly teach you Come When Called, Sit, Down, Stay, Leave It, and all the other common obedience commands— but our ultimate goal is to help you create a dog that you can live with peacefully and happily. We want you to have a friend who can be a part of your family and all the fun things you do together: soccer games, the ferry, family gatherings, picnics in the park, camping, pet-friendly stores…anything and everything as long as you’re together!

Prepare for your Puppy Class!

Important Requirement: Up-to-date medical records, including a negative fecal report dated within one year that states “no parasites seen,” must be submitted to us at least 72 hours prior to your first visit. See our Medical Requirements page to upload records and learn more. (There are no refunds or make-ups for classes forfeited due to missing or late fecal records.)

Upon Arriving at the Dog Center…
  • The entrance for arriving students is through the side door by the pea stones and red, white & blue fire hydrant.
  • Use our dog-friendly potty area if needed.
  • Wait by the side door until your trainer opens the door and invites you in. Do not enter through the front door.
  • Keep your dog leashed and close by your side at all times. Don’t approach other dogs.
What to Bring…
  • A 6-foot leash. (No retractable leashes. Anybody with a retractable leash will be asked to buy a standard one.)
  • A hungry dog! We’ll be using treats in class.
  • Healthy, soft treats. If you forget them, we have a great selection in our shop!
  • A treat pouch and/or pockets for your training items.
  • Poop bags. It’s a good habit to always have them with you.
  • Comfy clothes and athletic shoes – no high heels or boots, please!
  • An open and inquisitive mind. You’re likely to learn new information, and we want to make sure all of your questions are answered.
Be sure to ask about our Puppy Kits that include everything you need to start your puppy off right!

START OFF RIGHT – Newcomers welcome!

Congratulations and welcome home to your newest furry family member! Start Off Right is designed to start you and your puppy off on the right paw with fun, positive training. We will learn the first stages of Loose Leash Walking, Come When Called, Leave It, and we will show you how to find “the off-switch” on your new pup! We’ll also learn plenty of “traditional” commands like Sit, Down, and Stay plus a host of fun tricks! Most importantly, we’ll answer your questions – whether it’s about crate training, house training, nutrition, exercise, preventing unwanted behaviors like chewing, biting, and jumping up, or anything else you raise in class.

For extra socialization opportunities and to learn more about dog language and appropriate play you can also sign up for one of our Doggie Playgroups – a great compliment to your regular training class.

Puppy 2: From 4 to 7 Months

ADOLESCENT BEHAVIOR – Newcomers welcome!

As puppies grow, they start testing the boundaries of what they’ve already learned. Often our students tell us, “He used to come when called, but he won’t anymore,” or “He’ll only give me back my sock for a treat.” If this is you, you’ve come to the right place! Adolescent Behavior will cover the second stages of Loose Leash Walking, Come When Called, rock-solid Leave It, real Stays, ways to improve your puppy’s focus, and the beginnings of working with your puppy from a distance—all with ever-increasing distractions and motivation, just like real-life.

For extra socialization opportunities and to learn more about dog language and appropriate play you can also sign up for one of our Doggie Playgroups – a great compliment to your regular training class.

Puppy 3: From 7 to 9 Months*

ALMOST GROWN

Now your puppy is almost all grown up. Almost Grown means your dog has almost mastered Stays and Loose Leash Walking, and they’re ready for more advanced challenges like: early off-leash walking, long-distance commands, and Come When Called no matter what kind of enticing distractions we challenge them with! This is the developmental stage when inappropriate puppy behaviors start to cause trouble: humans and adult dogs expect Almost Grown dogs to act their ages! Puberty can be tough for a young dog – we know and we’re here to help!

For extra socialization opportunities and to learn more about dog language and appropriate play you can also sign up for one of our Doggie Playgroups – a great compliment to your regular training class.

* Newcomers with puppies 7 months and older should start with Adult 1: Good Dog 101.
